Ampcontrol Becomes a Certified Solution Provider for PG&E's FlexConnect Program

Certification enables fleet and depot operators in PG&E territory to energize large-scale truck charging in months instead of years. Ampcontrol's first FlexConnect site goes live in July 2026, bringing new electric trucks to the San Francisco Bay Area.

San Francisco— June 2026 — Ampcontrol today announced that it is now an approved and certified solution provider for Pacific Gas and Electric Company's (PG&E) FlexConnect program, one of the most advanced flexible interconnection offerings in the U.S. The certification allows Ampcontrol to manage EV charging in real time against live grid conditions, helping fleet and depot operators connect large-scale charging sites far faster than the traditional interconnection process allows.

The interconnection bottleneck

For operators electrifying trucks and fleets, securing the grid connection is often the hardest and slowest part of a project. When a site needs multiple DC fast chargers, the conventional path requires the utility to build out enough capacity for peak load — a process that can take years and add significant cost before a single truck plugs in.

PG&E's FlexConnect program offers a different model. Instead of waiting for the grid to be upgraded for worst-case peak demand, a certified energy management system receives grid-aware power limits from the utility and adjusts charging to stay within them. This lets sites use existing grid capacity more intelligently and energize sooner, while maintaining grid reliability.

How Ampcontrol's solution works

To earn FlexConnect certification, Ampcontrol passed IEEE 2030.5 Common Smart Inverter Profile (CSIP) certification along with PG&E's additional interoperability testing to integrate directly with PG&E's Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS).

In practice, Ampcontrol's Cloud and on-site controller, AmpEdge, receives the power schedules issued by PG&E over IEEE 2030.5 and intelligently distributes available capacity across the chargers on site — keeping the operation within the utility's limits while maximizing uptime and meeting the operator's charging needs. The result is faster energization, lower project costs, and trucks on the road sooner.

First site live in July

Ampcontrol's first FlexConnect site goes live in July 2026, supporting a new fleet of electric trucks operating in the San Francisco Bay Area. It marks the first deployment of Ampcontrol's FlexConnect-certified solution and a template the company expects to replicate across PG&E territory.

"Getting power to a charging site shouldn't be the thing that holds back electrification," said Jonas Schlund, Founding Member and Chief Product Officer of Ampcontrol. "FlexConnect lets us work with the grid as it is today, rather than waiting years for it to be rebuilt. For our customers, that can mean cutting interconnection timelines by three years or more and taking real cost out of the project. I'm incredibly proud of our engineering and product teams who made this possible, and grateful to the customer who is putting it into the field with us."

A model utilities everywhere should understand

Flexible interconnection is gaining momentum as utilities face rapid load growth from electric fleets, battery storage, and other large loads. Ampcontrol believes the FlexConnect approach — using software and real-time grid data to unlock existing capacity — is one of the most innovative and efficient ways to electrify faster, and that grid operators well beyond the U.S. should be studying it closely.

The grid we already have can do more than we think. FlexConnect is proof.
